Musikkselskapet Spoon Train blir et AS fra februar 2012 og søker i den anledning en lærevillig og sulten person til arbeid på vårt kontor i Oslo.

Spoon Train startet opp i 2007 og er i dag et musikkselskap med fire ansatte som dekker et bredt spekter av tjenester. Vi er et plateselskap, et management for norske artister og norsk promoter for utenlandske artister. I 2011 ga vårt plateselskap Spoon Train Audio ut seks album i tillegg til en rekke singler og EPer. Vi arrangerte konserter med artister som Bon Iver, The Antlers og Band of Horses, og booket flere hundre konserter med våre norske artister, som besøkte 13 land i løpet av året.
I tillegg er vi involvert i driften av et innspillingsstudio, samt utallige klubbkonserter, småfestivaler og arrangementer året igjennom.

Den nyansatte vil ta del i en svært spennende tid for oss i Spoon Train. Med nye medeiere, nye utenlandske samarbeidspartnere og en spisset forretningsprofil går vi en utfordrende og interessant fremtid i møte.

Vi søker deg som ser for deg en fremtid i musikkbransjen, enten som manager, arrangør eller som utgiver av musikk. Det er svært positivt om du har arbeidet frivillig på festivaler, på studentsamfunn eller liknende og har gode referanser fra dette. Vi søker ikke en student som ser etter en deltidsjobb innenfor “noe med musikk”.
Vi søker deg som er hardtarbeidende og som forstår at de beste jobbene er de man skaper selv. Du er initiativrik, selvdrevet og har god musikksmak.

Jobben innebærer i første omgang å fylle støttefunksjoner for våre managere og promotere, men jobben gir også store muligheter for arbeid med akkurat det du finner interessant. Arbeidstid, -mengde og avlønning etter avtale. Arbeidssted er Enerhaugen, Oslo.

Musikkbransjen er full av gamle gubber, så kvinner oppfordres til å søke.

Konserttider, på ukedager (mandag til torsdag) – når synes du dørene burde åpne og artist/band gå på?

Det er ganske tydelig at dere konsertgåere er lei av at dørene åpner 21:00 og at konsertene starter (tidligst) 22:00 på hverdager (minus fredag). Det kan jeg egentlig godt forstå.

Vi vil gjerne vite hvordan du går på konsert. I en perfekt verden, vil du spise middag ute etter jobb, se en konsert og så gå hjem – eller vil dra hjem, spise middag og så dra ut igjen?

Er det bedre å åpne dørene 19:00 fra mandag til onsdag, og så 20:00 på torsdag? En slags gradvis opptrapping til all ranglingen helgen har i vente.

GIVERS were part of this year’s Øyafestival, and the feedback they received was overwhelmingly positive. Social media sites were buzzing with praise for the Louisiana-band during and immediately after their set.

On the 15th of November, GIVERS will make you sweat in the thick of winter. They will take the stage at Revolver and no doubt deliver yet another crowd-pleasing performance.

Three years ago we had the pleasure of promoting a Daniel Johnston-show in Oslo. On that day his band consisted of Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse, Scout Niblett, Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub, James McNew of Yo La Tengo and Jad Fair of Half Japanese.

It was a magical night, but on the 19th of August you can experience Daniel Johnston in a stripped-down version. It’ll be Daniel, his songs, and you – the audience.

Daniel will be performing at Parkteatret, and tickets will be available via Billettservice, for the nice, friendly price of 200 NOK.

Two years on from her last visit to Norway, Marissa Nadler returns to Norway with an acclaimed new album to her name.

Her latest album is self-titled and has been getting some wonderful reviews:

Marissa Nadler is indeed expansive, but it presses on the chest and pulls at the soul in its own feathery, ethereal way. (AVClub.com, rating: A-)

Last time around she shared the bill with Xiu Xiu’s Jamie Stewart and put on a terrific show, something the reviews reflected. This time, however, the stage is all hers.

Marissa and her band will be performing at Revolver, the same venue as in 2009. Tickets will be available for purchase at Tiger this week.

Bon Iver have confirmed their first European tour dates since 2009. This news precedes the sophomore release of album Bon Iver out June 17 on 4AD.

The first single to be lifted from the aforementioned album will be ‘Calgary’. You can download the release here www.boniver.org. The physical format will be released on July 4 on 12”. Exclusive to this release will be a cover of Bonnie Raitt’s, ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’.

For the shows, Justin Vernon will perform with an 8-piece band that includes many musicians who contributed to the Bon Iver release. The touring band will consist of regular Bon Iver contributors Sean Carey (drums, piano), Mike Noyce (guitar) and Matt McCaughan (drums), as well as Rob Moose on violin and guitar (Antony and the Johnsons, The National), Mike Lewis on bass (Andrew Bird, Happy Apple), and a horn section including Reginald Pace, Colin Stetson (Tom Waits, Arcade Fire), and C.J. Camerieri (Rufus Wainwright, Sufjan Stevens).

The show in Oslo will take place at Sentrum Scene on the 3rd of November, and tickets will be available via Billettservice as of Friday. The show is co-presented between Spoon Train and Øya Open.

Formed from the ashes of two alternative country bands, Whiskeytown and Hominy, the duo of lead singer/guitarist Jesse Sykes and guitarist Phil Wandscher met in 1999 in Seattle’s Hattie Hat bar. (Allmusic.com)

Sykes and her bandmates are a group of musicians whose music resonates, against all standards of modern musical genrefication, in the parallel worlds of the avant-garde and the timeless. Sykes’ voice and the sometimes-mystical leanings of her songs (the former described perfectly by Magnet as “sounding less like a performer and more like a sage”), and the band’s incomparable feel all lead to what the New York Times has described as “spellbound music, rapt in fatalism and sorrow.” Perhaps it’s this thematic darkness that has lately drawn attention to their music from a decidedly heavier crowd than in the past. It’s a great pleasure for us to be able to present one of the most exciting bands to come out of the UK in years. If you’ve enjoyed contemporary acts such as Deerhoof, Dungen or Tame Impala in recent years, don’t miss out on Wolf People.

The brainchild of singer and guitarist Jack Sharp, Wolf People started in 2005 when Sharp recorded a demo album in the English town of Bedfordshire. Named after the children’s book Little Jacko and the Wolf People, the band is a throwback to the bluesy psychedelia of Cream, Traffic, and early Jethro Tull, tackling the sounds of the past with a kind of nostalgic reverence.

The band released a few singles and EPs before pulling off a bit of a coup on the other side of the pond, becoming the first British band to sign to the indie label Jagjaguwar. In 2010, Wolf People had a busy release year, putting out both their debut, Tidings, and their follow-up, Steeple, in the same year. (Allmusic.com)

We’ve fallen in love with Devon Sproule here at Spoon Train. Having heard her name for a fair few years, it was via the brilliant, and thoroughly professional, Word Magazine podcast that we got hooked on her particular brand of organic, blues-poppy, folk music.

Born to hippie parents on a commune named Dandelion in Kingston, Ontario, Sproule claims dual citizenship with both Canada and the United States. She spent her childhood on the 465-acre (1.88 km²), 100-member Twin Oaks Community^[2] founded in 1967 as an intentional community and ecovillage in Louisa County, Virginia.

Sproule’s music shares elements of folk, country, and jazz, delivered in an affecting, personal style.

Here, in the future of 2011, by:Larm, the norwegian equivalent of SXSW and CMJ, have decided to focus a bit more on the Norwegian music world’s undergrowth, meaning that they are allowing some of Norway’s ambitious independent labels to curate their own labelnights during the by:Larm festival.

Obviously by:Larm thinks Spoon Train is one of the Norwegian labels who deserve this bit of attention from the established music industry, as we’ve gotten the joyful task of putting up an entire night with Spoon Train acts only. So we now look very much forward to Friday, feb 18th @ Mono, where we’ll all have a great time. There will be Spoon Train DJs playing in between and after the bands to make sure the party doesn’t end until the lights go on. Can’t wait to see you there!
